Need Help with Reading, Writing, Math, or English?
The Flint & Genesee Literacy Network works closely with the Volunteer Tutor Alliance, the Genesee County Literacy Coalition, and our Partner Adult Learning Centers to connect adults with free tutoring and classes. Whether you want a better job, a GED, to help your kids with homework, or to feel more confident, we’re here to help.
Complete our Adult Learner Interest Form, and we’ll match you with a caring tutor or place you in the right class.
Adult Basic Education (ABE) – Help adults improve their reading, writing and mathematics skills for people below the ninth grade level.
English Language Acquisition (ELA) – Help non-native speakers improve their English skills to be able to further their education, help their children with schoolwork and activities, obtain training and employment.
Integrated ELA and Civics Education (IELCE) – Assists non-native speakers to improve their English skills while learning how to become an effective parent, citizen, and worker.
Literacy Councils – Provide one-on-one tutoring for a range of academic levels, but usually for adults who have very low-level reading and math skills.

Our Partners in Literacy
At the Flint & Genesee Literacy Network, we don’t just place learners with volunteer tutors directly — we also connect them with programs offered by members of the Genesee County Literacy Coalition (GCLC) when that’s the best fit. By working hand-in-hand with our coalition partners, we ensure that every learner can find the right path forward, whether through one-to-one tutoring or site-based instruction.
Together, we are building a stronger, more literate community.
